Eligibility Criteria

  • All Singaporean students pursuing full-time education in any of the 3 local ITEs, any of the 5 local Polytechnics and any of the 6 local Universities.

  • Unfortunately, at this juncture, it is open to Singaporean students only.

  • Singapore Cambridge GCE ‘N’, ‘O’ or ‘A’ level examinations of:

    • ‘N’ Level: Aggregate score of 10 and below 

    • ‘O’ Level: Aggregate score of 14 and below 

    • ‘A’ Level: Three H2 and one H1 content-based subjects of grades consisting of at least AAB/C or Rank Points of at least 65

     

    NITEC or Higher NITEC NITEC holders with GPA of 3.5 and above

    • Higher NITEC holders with GPA 2.0 and above 

    • Polytechnic Diploma with GPA of 3.4 and above

    • International Baccalaureate Diploma 

      • Grade 5 in at least two Higher Level (HL) and one Standard Level (SL) subjects

      • and either one of the following:

        • A minimum pass grade for HL/SL MTL A: Literature

        • A minimum pass grade for HL/SL MTL A: Language and Literature

        • A minimum pass grade for HL/SL Language B

        • A minimum D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the ‘O’ Level examination

  • Yes, your household PCI should be between $1,750 to $2,625.

Application Process

  • You can apply through our portal. Simply fill in the online application form and upload the required documents before the deadline.  

    You may view our bursary and grant here to apply. 

  • Please check our website for updates.

  • Yes, you should have been accepted by your selected institution and course that you have applied for. This helps us assess your suitability and alignment with the scholarship objectives.

Required Documents 

  • Based on the bursary and/ or grant that you are applying for, you may need to submit the following documents:

    1. Institution admission/ acceptance letter

    2. Academic transcripts 

    3. Family particulars form 

    4. Income declaration form (if applicable) 

    5. Identification documents

    6. Other documents as applicable in each application 

  • Unfortunately, once submitted, changes cannot be made through the portal. However, you may contact us directly if there are any urgent updates or errors.

Selection Process

  • All applications are reviewed for academic merit, alignment with our values and suitability to our criteria. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by our SMJFL team and may be invited for interviews.

  • Interviews are not a mandatory part of the application process, but you may be invited for an interview if we require further assessments. If you are invited for an interview, you can expect questions (not limited to) on your academic goals, personal motivations and understanding of your chosen field. 

Award Details

  • The SMJFL Aspiration Bursary covers your tuition fees while the Step-Up Relief grant covers your monthly living allowance for 3 months. 

  • Yes, they are both bond-free. 

  • We currently do not provide funding for overseas exchange programs or internships.

  • The SMJFL Aspiration Bursary is a one-off payment of a fixed amount while the Step-Up Relief Grant covers your monthly living allowance for 3 months.

Result

  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified within 2 to 6 weeks after you have submitted your application. 

  • You will be notified via email. Please ensure that your contact details in the application are accurate and up to date.

  • Decisions are final and not subject to appeal. However, you are welcome to apply again in the next cycle if you meet the eligibility criteria.

    • For SMJFL Aspiration Bursary recipients, we will inform you via email and you will be invited for an award ceremony to receive your bursary certificate. 

    • For Step-Up Relief Grant's recipients, we will inform you via email. You may be required to assist with any other administrative matters before the funds are disbursed.

Post-Award Requirements

  • No there is no service bond or obligation tied to the bursary or grant.

  • You may be required to refund the bursary amount disbursed. Each case will be assessed individually.

  • Yes, bursary recipients are required to maintain their GPA as follows:

    • Universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUSS, SUTD & SiT): 3.8 & SMU is 3.4

    • Polytechnics: 3.4

    • ITE: 3.5

Re-application

  • Yes, we encourage applicants to reapply if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria and have made improvements in their profile.

  • Yes, a new application is required.

  • No, you will need to submit a new application the following year.
